For those of you who have been with us from our launch in 2018, or have joined us along our brand’s journey, you know that we are unapologetic linen enthusiasts. Our hero bedding products are made from 100% linen for so many reasons, including the breathability, temperature regulating and moisture wicking superiority of linen. In 2020, we added our linen waffle bath towel collection because it is light, quick to dry and anti-microbial which reduces that undesirable musty smell that other towels get. It is undeniable, we love linen.
Why We Made This
A couple of years ago, we started thinking about how we could continue to help more people get better rest through the life-changing world of linen bedding. We recognized that 100% linen bedding can be an investment to jump into for the first time (keep reading for why that is) and that some consumers prefer a smoother looking fabric on their bed compared to linen’s more lived-in aesthetic. We also heard from our incredibly loyal customers who converted to Wilet linen and wanted to outfit their guest rooms, vacation homes, and children’s rooms with linen bedding, but at a more accessible price point.

- easy care - while 100% linen has that more lived-in and textured look, the addition of cotton to the blend can make the fabric slightly less wrinkly.
It’s important to note that our formulation is not just cotton that has been treated to feel more like linen. Our Linen Cotton fabric is made by blending the linen and cotton fibres during the weaving process to produce a fabric with a unique combination of qualities.
The Details
We tested countless samples from manufacturers around the world and we’ve chosen the product that seamlessly integrates the benefits of sleeping in linen with the textural contrast and lower price point of cotton. Our blend is 55% linen and 45% cotton, making it breathable and temperature regulating, while also having a smoother look and hand feel. Linen fabrics, including blends, are measured in grams per square meter (GSM) and our Linen Cotton bedding is 160 GSM, a perfect all-season weight that will keep you cool in warmer months and cozy when temperatures drop.
We also made an intentional design change compared to our 100% linen bedding - the duvet covers in our Linen Cotton Duvet Sets have an invisible zipper closure instead of linen ties, a request we’ve received over the years and were happy to introduce with the Linen Cotton Bedding Collection. We are launching with two dreamy, neutral colourways exclusive to this collection: an off-white hue called Cream and a natural taupe called Oyster. We love playing with colour, but we’ve started with neutrals that create a grounding, sense of calm in the most important place in your home dedicated to rest and restoration.
How Our Linen Cotton is Made
In formulating a new linen bedding blend, we were insistent that the fabric still consist of only natural fibres that could be produced in an environmentally mindful way. With these criteria, cotton as the complementary fibre made the most sense. Adding cotton to the blend also decreases production costs, which we are passing on to the consumer. Linen is more costly for a number of reasons - flax is grown and produced into linen in less places than other fabrics, and farmers must wait at least 3 years between flax crops on the same plot of land, which keeps availability limited and subject to price fluctuations if there are bad crop years. Cotton is also subject to price fluctuations, but there are significantly more cotton sources worldwide than flax for linen.
The process for producing our Linen Cotton starts with linen fibres being obtained from the flax plant, while cotton fibres come from the cotton plant. These fibres are then blended together before being spun into yarn, which creates a more uniform blend. Once the linen cotton yarn is spun, it is then woven into fabric and sewn into our bedding pieces - fitted sheets, flat sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers. The final product is smooth, soft and breathable - a perfect combination for building a sleep haven.
Which One Is For You - 100% Linen or Linen Cotton?
Choosing between our two bedding options is going to come down to personal preference, but we can help by providing some factors to consider:
- breathability - while both are more breathable and temperature regulating than other fabrics, 100% Linen is more effective in these areas compared to Linen Cotton;
- texture - Linen Cotton has a smoother look and feel than 100% Linen, and some may prefer its less textured look;
- care and aesthetic - some may find Linen Cotton easier to care for because the cotton prevents wrinkles, while others may prefer the more luxurious, premium look and feel of 100% Linen;
- environmental impact - flax cultivation for linen is the most sustainable because it uses less pesticides and water during the growing process, and the other parts of the plant can be used for other materials to minimize waste;
- price - our Linen Cotton bedding is offered at a lower price point because the cultivation and production of cotton is less costly than linen; and
- finishings - our Linen Cotton duvet covers use an invisible zipper closure, while our 100% Linen duvet covers are closed with linen ties.
